The F Style Mandolin
"F" style mandolins with ornate scrolls
and points were first introduced as early as 1902 by Gibson
to add more appeal to the basic tear shaped mandolins of the
time. Originally with oval holes the F5 with it's f hole was
introduced in 1922. Early F5 mandolins built between 1922
and 1924 carrying the signature of Lloyd Loar can command
huge prices!
As a departure from the normal brown
sunburst finish associated with the F5's I've produced one
in a deep blue and another as a natural blonde.
Made using European spruce top and figured
sycamore back, sides and neck, this instrument plays and
sounds good, especially in bluegrass circles.
